Accreditation and Transitional Arrangements (PPSA)

The Primary Produce Safety (Dairy) Regulations 2024, developed under Section 9 of the Primary Produce Safety Act 2011 (“the PPSA") came into effect, and as a result the TDIA are now regulating under this Act.

Accreditation and Transitional Arrangements

All licence holders approved under the Dairy Industry Act 1994 as at January 2025 are deemed to meet requirements of the Primary Produce Safety Act 2011 and are therefore automatically accredited.  This accreditation will remain valid unless it is suspended, revoked, surrendered or transferred under that Act.

The previously received Dairy Industry Act licence will continue to operate until 31 December 2025, at which time renewals will be issued for a 6-month period to end June 2026.  This will allow the Dairy Industry Act licence to align with reporting requirements under Section 16 of the PPSA – which requires reporting similar to that which exists when renewing a dairy licence.  From June 2026, dairy licences will be issued for a 12-month period (July – June).

Annual auditing and usual administration of food safety legislation will not change significantly as the previous Food Act requirements are reflected in the PPSA.
