On 20^th November 2023, the Minister for Primary Industries appointed Mr Paul West as the first independent Chair for the Tasmanian Dairy Industry Authority.  The appointment follows a review of the TDIA undertaken in 2022 by Dr Lloyd Klumpp, who recommended that the Chair of the Authority be independent of Government and Industry to have true independence from any perceived political influences.  The Board of the Authority accepted Dr Klumpp's recommendation, and earlier this year engaged a professional recruitment organisation to undertake the task of finding a qualified Chair. ​

The recruitment organisation received interest in the position from professionals across Australia, and it is pleasing that the successful candidate is based in Tasmania.

Mr West is well known in Tasmania for his extensive experience in local government over 30+ years.  He is a Justice of the Peace, and holds memberships of se​veral professional organisations.  He also holds several Board and Committee roles, and his corporate governance experience will serve him, and the Authority, well as he undertakes the role of Chair for the organisation.
